INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Ahead of an Indiana Election Commission meeting, the Indiana attorney general says the legal questions have been answered about Sen. Dick Lugar?s residency.
Lugar has been singled out by primary contender Richard Mourdock for his home in Virginia. Mourdock has called into question Lugar?s residency status in Indiana, as Lugar continues to represent the state.
?I don't want to wade too far into the political questions because that ends up being what is raised, but the legal questions have been asked and answered, and anything else you hear that raises questions aren't really legal questions so much as political questions,? Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller said Thursday.
It?s not the first time Zoeller has been approached by Lugar for advice ? but in the past, it?s been verbal. Now, in advance of tomorrow?s Indiana Election Commission meeting, the Lugar camp has asked for a written opinion.
Zoeller said he?s looked over opinions from two previous attorneys general, and also done his own research, and he agrees with the past opinions. He also said Lugar has the right to follow the advice of the attorney general.
